Moonwalk Riverfront Park: Meeting Coordinates & Sights
The Gateway to the Mississippi Moonwalk Riverfront Park is a scenic promenade running along the Mississippi River in the French Quarter. Named after former New Orleans Mayor Maurice "Moon" Landrieu, this park opened up the riverfront to the public for the first time in the 1970s.
It is also the official meeting spot for the $5 Orientation Pass Daily Briefing.
Finding the Orientation Guide Our guides stand directly on the promenade. Here is how to find us: 1. Coordinates: Locate the Washington Artillery Park amphitheater (directly between Jackson Square and the Mississippi River). 2. Look for the Umbrella: Walk up the stairs of the amphitheater to the river promenade. Look for the bright yellow umbrella next to our golf cart. 3. Times: We stand there daily at 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM. 4. No Obligations: Just step up, show your confirmation ticket, and collect your Welcome Packet (including safety maps, dining coupons, and tour discounts).
Sights Along the Riverfront * The Steamboat Natchez: Moored right next to the Moonwalk, the Natchez is the last authentic steam-powered paddlewheel boat on the Mississippi. You'll hear its calliope steam organ playing music 30 minutes before every sailing. * The Algiers Ferry: Located just down the walkway. For $2, you can take a scenic ferry ride across the river to historic Algiers Point. * The River Walkway: You can walk uninterrupted along the river from the French Market all the way down to the Audubon Aquarium.
